Welcome everyone!

It's a very long and boring story that lead to the old forum content to all get lost to oblivion. What does this leave us with? Happy memories and a fresh start.

I've had to make peace with the fact that many years of content is simply gone. But I have a feeling that, now with a more focused fandom, we'll have a much stronger community here, without the mess. It's like the old Green Dragon, but everywhere.

In personal news, I'm getting married this August 28th, so I'm pretty busy with wedding planning and all of that. It's going to make building this thing up take some time, but we'll get there.

I'm not sure how active the current/last moderators were/are with maintaining the forums and such, but I'd be willing to help with things if need be, I have time and a good amount of personal experience with forum software etc. Though I have a feeling the only things you'll need help with are things I can't really do well enough, like a custom theme for the wordpress front and vbulletin backend etc.

Actually, the things that I'll need help with are all content based. I'm much better at themes than I used to be. Currently coming up with a design for the wordpress front and I'm testing out some of the vbulletin themes that I like. I can take it from there and make it more Matrix.

The Psuedo pages you have set up currently from the wordpress page, are you planning on throwing that content into actual wordpress pages when you get the theme down, or are you going to keep things the way they are. Most of that content is very old anyways, but still.

    Er... wow. Damn.

It'll be interesting to see how many of the old guard re-register.

Well, here's to a new home...

Thanks for comin' back around! Yeah, it'll be really pretty cool if we can get a lot of the old crew back in here. Not to mention the fact that a smaller forum seems to attract people a bit more than a larger one that they could get lost in.

I've got a pretty good plug-in that my friend Scott wrote for me, for NarniaFans.com that I was thinking of trying out here. It would all be database driven and have more dynamic pages that interconnect and link content to content.

For instance, you click on "Neo" and you'll see stats about Neo, who played him, symbolism, etc. From that page you could probably click on "Symbolism" and get to the symbolism menu or something.

I'm also considering doing something closer to a closed wiki. But we'll see how I feel after I get the new design done and give some time to research.

... and boy could people get lost in the old one... ;) I'm surprised you didn't find any skeletons in the old server of people that got in and couldn't find a way out again!

I like the more compact forum list.

Oh, and I can haz Avatar plzkthx? :)

Closed wiki, hrm that sounds like a good idea if you can actually populate it well enough. Though that's a very tough job, and these days things are a lot more open. Take for example Whiskey Media's set of open database niche sites which are basically user driving Wiki sites for specific needs like Video Games, Movies, Comics and Tech. Though I guess the Matrix knowledge is kinda finite and way easier to deal with then any of THOSE sites, but still... lots of work.

Malachi - Yep, I'll get avatars working. No problem (if I can find the option, lol).

DJJoeJoe - For sure. I'll look into all of my options before I really start in on the pages. Don't want to do a ton of work only to remove it later. (One of the best things about this is I'm a professional with Search Engine Optimization now.) Hopefully I can find the best thing for it. Especially since The Matrix 4 is in the works. ...yeah, that's it...

    Tsunamia - Welcome back!

Ooh, it's back up. I stopped checking daily thinking the place had fully died. Glad to see it hasn't, even though it sucks that everything was lost.

Will there be any recovery? Or has a decade + of Matrix discussion erased from history?

    Oh, and uh hi!

really?? wow - what's the latest info on this?
  • edited August 2010
A decade of Matrix discussion has indeed been erased from history. It was not in my control, and my backups were as corrupt as the database in the end. It was better for all of us to have a clean start, anyway.

Plus, there were literally about 5000+ non-working e-mail addresses in the system (and many of those from good users). Those e-mail addresses kept bouncing e-mails back to me and wasting my time, every time someone would comment on a thread they were subscribed to. I don't have time to delete unnecessary junk email every day. This has saved me accumulated hours. I'd rather my life than my content.

"The Matrix 4 is in the works"

This may be a naive question, but do you mean a new Matrix movie? Or some sort of computer program?
  • Hello everyone. I am new to the fan page here. I was looking for a good place to get information on how to make my own fan Matrix mash-ups. I've got an intel based mac and a copy of final cut studio for reference if anyone knows how to get the footage from the DVD to the Desktop.

    Wow, we've been rebooted.

Hello, everybody nice to see a reboot to the system.

It's the old mercury, in fact. I have no idea when I had actually visited MFN the last time. Over the years time has become a bit of a blurr. ;)
Seems like I poked my head in just around the right time now. Everything's clean and new. I like it. Oh, and since August is already over: Congratulations on getting married, Specter!

So all the old times... just memories now.
It's really quite odd, I'm getting a bit teary eyed for some reason...

But we'll put it down to the burrito I had for lunch.

I'm glad this forum is back! I was beginning to think I was the last person on the planet that still liked the Matrix. I can't believe WB (that's Warner, not Wachowski ;) ) took the official site down.

Speaking of which: does anyone else remember the "Zion Archives" section from the official site? It was the one where a silvery-gray box popped up onscreen and when you clicked to "enter" it a list of ships, Zion areas, etc. led to fantastic closeups of the sets. I've tried using an archiving site to find the Archive again but when I get to the listing there's nothing there to click on anymore.

I just want to use the photos to draw fan art and have fun...if anyone has any info. on how to find the Zion Archives again please PLEASE let me know.

    Thanks!!

Yeah, We're all still around. There's just not a lot to discuss these days. Finding news is also pretty difficult, but I'm giving it a shot.
